A 501(c)(3) nonprofit
built for community wellness.
Created to help individuals and families access compassionate support before challenges escalate into crises. Through emotional support, maternal and family wellness services, care navigation, and community outreach, we are building a community-centered approach to strengthening wellbeing across Eastern North Carolina.
Our Approach
What We Do
Our Platform
HarborWell hosts a community-based hotline and care navigation platform that provides emotional support, grounding strategies, and referrals to community resources. Care seekers reach HarborWell through our dedicated phone hotline and text-to-chat service, where trained Care Navigators provide immediate emotional support, grounding strategies, and care navigation.
Our staff listens to concerns — including postpartum mothers — to connect them with appropriate community resources and offer follow-up support (home visits) when requested.
Through this structured approach, Care Navigators document anonymized insights about common barriers to accessing care, service gaps, and community strengths — identifying patterns that reveal how individuals experience and navigate mental health systems in real time.
ANCHOR® Intake Framework
- A Acknowledge the care seeker and establish safety
- N Navigate immediate needs and concerns
- C Connect individuals to relevant resources and services
- H Help with grounding strategies and emotional support
- O Outline next steps and available support options
- R Reconnect through follow-up or referrals
Knowledge System
HarborWell is developing a Community-Driven Mental Health Knowledge System in Eastern North Carolina that captures community insights about barriers to care and transforms those insights into practical strategies for improving crisis prevention and care navigation. By combining peer-based support, care navigation, and structured documentation of community experiences, HarborWell will generate actionable knowledge that can inform more inclusive and resilient mental health systems.
